On The Sixth Day of (Temporary) Bumhood
26 November 2007, 1:08 am
Filed under: Philosophy of the Person

Don’t ask me why, I have to stay at home for seven days. It’s a taste of bumhood and so far, I am getting the hang of it.

Tonight I shall go to Prinsipe’s and grab a few rounds of vodka.  We’re going to try the local brand offered by a reputable brewing company here in P.I. and mix it with the usual (Sprite, minus the lemon, of course).

Tomorrow is the last day of my being a bum. On Wednesday, I am going back to work.  I can bet one million bucks that I have two desks of paperwork to do, though probably not as high as one foot.  I hate working, but I love paydays.

Sharing with you my horoscope for today 26th of November 2007 brought to you in part by Friendster astrology, in orange italics.

Staying close to home is best for you today. You’re in a mood to ignore the world.

If it were not for the drinking spree tonight, I would have hibernated all day long.

As much as you may want to hurl a drink in their face, try not to let the arrogance of someone else put you in a sour mood.

Could be be one of the creatures I will meet at Prinsipe’s.  And who said I should not let their arrogance bring me to hurl a drink in their face?  I’ll shower them with vodka if I like.  No one’s going to stop this megabitch.

There are way too many knuckleheads in this world to live life any other way. After all, if you let every jerk affect your mood, you would never be able to relax.

I’ll let myself be affected if I want to and handle it afterwards.  I don’t need an astrologer’s unsolicited opinion on how I will handle my emotions, so fuck off.

Lately there have been an unpleasantly high number of negative-minded people around you, but luckily that is all about to change soon. So just Zen them out and focus on the people who add joy to your life.

This is so true. Thank Cosmic Muffin, it’ll be over soon.

This is as short as I can afford to post. I will still be looking for someone in cyberspace. My sideline as a private investigator demands too much from me.

Ciao! Hullo Pedrito.  Bet you’re reading this.  Check out the private photos.  I approved your request.

Below is a poster of one of the god-damned wonderful flicks I watched in the course of my temporary bumhood.  Go and grab your DVDs and watch it, watch it, watch it!

"Here’s looking at you, kid."

Hitting The Bottom
13 November 2007, 3:29 am
Filed under: Philosophy of the Person

Just hit the bottom at work.  Two major accounts ‘exploded’ and two are rumbling before the explosion.  One of the two about-to-explode accounts will be given a remedy within this week and the other one is still, well… brewing.  I still have to kick my own ass to get the job done.

The boss asked me what the hell happened to me.  I could not give her a direct answer since I don’t know how to put my emotions into words.  Not that I don’t exactly know what hit me or I cannot figure out what hit me or what hit me is too shameful to talk about.  I know everything and I stuck to what hit me, though not deliberately.  I know I could have outdone myself but I just could not, not by choice, but because I ran out of acceptable reasons to give myself the push; and I know that it does not justify hitting bottom at work, so I decided to keep my mouth shut.

It’s as if I died for more than two months.  I cannot even recall the things I did when I went to work from August to October.  Imagine a person going to work every single day for more than two months accomplishing nothing–that was me.  Now I’m back on track.  Me and Tacky (an officemate) cleaned up my desks (yes, I have two desks at work) and we accumulated a heap of documents measuring one foot thick.  That’s how you measure my ‘death’ for more than two months.  I went to work like a zombie.  Plus the asthma attacks became severe, plus I was rushed to the ER twice with no significant medical findings so I got discharged right away.  I know it’s not sickness that hit me.  It’s something I opt not to discuss, for personal reasons.

If the topic seems so private, why blog about it?

The reason for hitting-the-bottom issue is indeed private, but hitting the bottom is not private.  Everyone in the office knows, even the Big Wigs.  I never tried to defend or justify myself to anyone who asks about what happened since it is something personal, but I want to give the world the dirty finger and say to everyone I can resurrect myself no matter how bad things get.

The resurrection begins now.

    A List of Good Remakes

I have an inexplicable dislike for remakes. Not that I hate it when original songs are revived/remade. I hate it when artists revive the songs and the original is way better than the revival, or worse, the revival sounds like the original. What’s the point of reviving or remaking songs when you cannot offer at least an alternative to the original, if not outdo it? I think most remakes/revivals stink, but let us not overlook the fact that there are good remade/revived songs, remakes/revivals which can stand on their own and will make it to the airwaves without you wishing to hear the original instead. Here is my alpha list of twenty. I shall add that the songs in this list do not necessarily give me a high, but they’re good and deserve to be given the credit.

    • Big Yellow Taxi – Counting Crows
    • Bizarre Love Triangle – The Speaks (Whew!)
    • Can We Still Be Friends – Mandy Moore (Good, but I won’t buy her album.)
    • Emotions – Samantha Sang (I like.)
    • Ghost In You – Counting Crows (I think this is unreleased.)
    • I Still Believe – Mariah Carey (Good remake but I won’t buy an album.)
    • I Wanna Know What Love Is – Tina Arena (Icky song, but nice remake.)
    • I Will – Ben Taylor (The Beatles version is superb, but this remake stands by itself and it is whapack!)
    • Kahit Ika’y Panaginip Lang – Nyoy Volante (I have a signed album! Holy cow!)
    • Kissing A Fool – Michael Buble (Fabulous! Come to think of it, all Michael Buble remakes are fabulous. I have tons of Michael Buble songs in my play list.)
    • La La Means I Love You – SOS (Nicolas Cage version, patok din.)
    • O, Lumapit Ka – Nina (This one’s fantastic, but I won’t buy the Hotsilog album.)
    • Our Love (Don’t Throw It All Away) – Jennifer Love Hewitt (Equally wonderful to the original version by Andy Gibb. I like!)
    • So Far Away – Bamboo (That is talent, parekoi.)
    • Something Stupid – Nicole Kidman and Robbie Williams
    • Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word – Elton John with a boy band
    • Waiting In Vain – Annie Lennox
    • Wildflower – Color Me Badd
    • You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling – Daryl Hall and John Oates (The best!)
    • And of course Anna Gumamela will not forget…

    • Summer Breeze – Jed Madela (I have a signed album. Hehe!)

Violent Reactions and What Have You

I hate the OPM remake of Blue Eyes Blue. I heard it playing in a KRR outlet and it made me want to pummel the speakers. Whoever did that remake deserves a karate chop on the neck, hard enough to damage the larynx. But I hate the Run To You Regine Velasquez remake more than any remake or song. Fucking dick. I think it’s the worst thing in the entire history of music. I wish Miss Velasquez would stop singing like that—like she’s being pinched somewhere private. I hate that singing technique, if you could call that a technique (I think howling would be more appropriate). If her singing or, yes, howling, makes my neutral office mates cringe, imagine what it does to me. It does not only make me want to give her a karate chop on the neck… it makes me want to pray for her. Hahaha!!!

I am not good at singing so who am I to criticize. But I ALLOT A PORTION OF MY INCOME ON ORIGINAL CDs. I own several pirated / burned CDs, given by friends and acquaintances and if I like the pirated copy, I get myself an original copy. The hard-to-find songs (i.e. Heart Needs A Second Chance by 38 Special) are acquired through the powers of the internet, but I only use the web to search for extremely hard-to-find cuts. If there are people like me who are willing to spend on original CDs, album producers and artists should give us a reason to ‘invest’ our centavos on their products.

Why do I buy original CDs when it seems absurd because everything is to be found in the web or The Quiapo Tower Records? The estimated useful life of original CDs is longer than that of the pirated ones. It’s the most practical thing to do, to buy original. It helps one develop an impeccable taste for music. Since you’re buying only original copies, you tend to choose only those that are worth keeping as you know it would be insane to grab and spend on every released record in the market. Besides, if no one buys original CDs, who would sing our favorite songs?

I have a friend who buys pirated albums, but when it comes to Pinoy artists, she cannot bring herself to pay for bootlegs. Her saying goes, "Bumili ka ng pirated pero ‘wag mo namang taluhin ang kalahi mo." Makes sense. If we cannot afford to buy original, let us spare the Pinoy artists from the bludgeoning.

Now… Why am I so into this? Hahaha!!! Secret!!!

    Happy sound tripping everyone!!!

    J

    Waiting

Filed under: Philosophy of the Person

Just passing time while waiting for a short message that would tell me I can leave.  Holy cow.  What’s taking him so long?

I checked several websites through google and I am happy/sad about the things I learned.  Thing is, sadness devours me…  so I will not even dwell into that.  :(  Sigh…

    Shift gears, shift mood.

I’m whacking my brains…  I can’t recall the goddamned title of the Stephen Chow flick which has the same plot as Martin Scorcese’s The Departed.  Which came first?  Movie afficionados out there, can you help me out?  If it turns out that The Departed is merely a derivative, then it’s dropped out of my list of favorite flicks.  (But I have to admit, the goddamned superb acting of Mister DiCaprio makes The Departed one of my goddamned fave flicks–but that would not be enough reason to put it on the list of the favorite amongs the favorites…  Holy cow!  The insane habit of talking to oneself while waiting…  Hahaha!)

Holy cow.  Got the short message.  I’m just getting fired up and now I have to leave.

Hi Heidi!!!  I miss you too!!!  Let’s meet some time.  I’ll send you a short message.  (Hirap kasi ng parehas na sikat, laging hectic ang sched!  Bwahahah!!!)

    Ciao!!!

Errata : The Departed is a remake of Infernal Affairs, a Chinese flick that does not feature the acting prowess of Stephen Chow.  Thanks to www.google.com:)
